In Barsinghausen near Hannover, the water purificaton plant for the surrounding communities was equipped with facilities for the production and use of sewage gas. After 15 months of construction, two digesters, a gas storage tank, a gas purification and the compact CHP unit FG 123, which we supplied in a container, were installed and started operation in summer 2022.
As described in the article Energie aus Klärschlamm of the stadt+werk magazine, the energy generated by the CHP unit from the renewable fuel sewage gas covers about half of the sewage plant’s demand. The total investment of about five million euros, which was supported by the EU, generates annual savings totalling about 350,000 EUR and 960 t of CO2 emissions.
