In the Thuringian recreation and sports town of Oberhof the Grand Green Familux Resort, a unique hotel combining relaxed luxury with comprehensive childcare, was opened in autumn 2022. The energy supply is provided by the Techem Energy Contracting company, which had already installed a SOKRATHERM cogeneration unit at the Oberhof Panorama hotel a few years earlier. Both hotels have hosted top athletes from all over the world during the Luge and Biathlon World Championships held in Oberhof in early 2023.
Electricity and heat for the operation of the Grand Green are generated by solar panels and a GG 355 compact CHP unit. This CHP type with 357 kW of electrical and 455 kW of thermal output achieves excellent efficiencies of 40.2 % electrical and 90.3 % overall. Its innovative MAN engine is ideally prepared for the hydrogen future and fits seamlessly into the vision of sustainable energy for Oberhof. In the BWK article Nachhaltige Energie für Oberhof of the same name published in BWK, both CHP plants in hotels are also described.
