The St. Josef-Hospital is a clinical centre of the Ruhr University Bochum and the largest operating facility of the Catholic Hospital Bochum. The building, which is also populated by Christel Lechner’s „Alltagsmenschen“ (everyday people), houses an auditorium centre for lectures, training and events opened in 2003. Twenty years later a compact CHP unit GG 260 for the highly efficient generation of heat and power started operation.
It has an electrical output of 263 kW and a thermal output of 394 kW within the module. With the additional condensing heat exchanger, it generates up to 70 kW of additional heat output with the same fuel input (710 kW). Equipped with a low-maintenance 12-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, the CHP unit meets the strictest emission standards and significantly reduces the hospital’s energy costs.
