Since 2014 the traditional brewery Cölner Hofbräu P. Josef Früh KG in Cologne brews its cult beer „Früh Kölsch“ highly efficient with cogeneration: A compact CHP unit GG 198 D installed together with a downstream steam generator in a CHP heating center electricity and ca. 180 kg saturated steam. Since additionally all low-tempemperature heat from engine cooling, mixture cooling and condensing heat exchanger is used to heat up the brewing water the CHP plant reaches a total efficiency of up to 94,1 %.
The project was described in English together with other CHP applications in breweries in the article Tradition gets a boost in the BRAUWELT International magazine 2015/VI and in German by Energie & Management as BHKW des Monats März 2015 as well as by EnergieAgentur.NRW as a CHP project example.
