The e-tron is Audi’s first fully electric car and delivered to customers in Germany since spring 2019. In spite of 300 kW system power and 2,5 t weight its range is over 400 kW (WLTP cycle) because of minimum drag, recuperation of brake power and high battery capacity. On speed charging stations with 150 kW (DC / CCS) the battery can be loaded to 80 % capacity (95 kW) within 30 minutes.
In order to present the e-tron publicly also in areas far away from any charging stations, Audi has asked MAN Energy Solutions and other companies to develop a system which can „fill up“ the presented e-cars with clean power – decentral and independent from any network. The result is the Sustainable Mobile Charging System (SMCS), which consists of a gas-trailer with windpower generated gas, a power-led SOKRATHERM GG 530 unit, a 360 kWh power storage and charging stations.
This system was inaugurated on March 12th 2019 together with Audi executive Wendelin Göbel and MAN Energy Solutions CEO Dr. Uwe Lauber on an Audi test drive site. During the event the practical usability of the off-grid system was tested and proven with numerous fast charges of e-trons. Moreover we could collect valuable experiences for the planning and implementation of stationary charging stations with CHP units an battery storages e.g. for car dealers or filling stations.
