Landfill Reesberg in Kirchlengern
1 x FG 95 in Container

CHP unit FG 95 (left) with gas flare (right)

Since May 2024 a containerized compact CHP unit produces 95 kW electricity and 137 kW heat at the Reesberg landfill in Kirchlengern (northwestern Germany). The cogeneration unit is fueled only by the landfill gas, which is generated underground during the decomposition of the deposited waste. Before its installation the gas was burnt by the gas flare shown on the photo on the right side of the CHP container. The gas flare is now only needed when the CHP unit is idle.

The heat ist used to process the seepage water of the landfill and to heat the heat the buildings, the electricity is used for the landfill operation and surplus power is fed into the mains. A project report was published in the „stadt+werk“ magazine issue 9/10 and can be read here (in German).
